Our Climate Commitment

To keep global warming below 1.5°C and avoid the worst effects of climate change, we all need to work together to significantly reduce carbon emissions. The Paris Agreement calls for halving global greenhouse gas emissions this decade and reaching net zero by 2050. Unfortunately, we are not on track, and those with the ability to accelerate progress must act now.

That’s why, in 2020, we committed to reducing our emissions by 50% by 2030.

Reducing Energy Use

Our first priority is to reduce energy use across both our own operations and our entire value chain. The production of materials for Haglöfs products is our biggest source of emissions, and making this process more efficient presents a significant opportunity for impact. By focusing on this area, we can make a difference by producing materials in factories using energy-efficient methods and choosing materials with a lower carbon footprint.

Some of the key areas we’re working on include:

  • Identifying opportunities for energy efficiency improvements in factories throughout our supply chain.
  • Ensuring our products are made to last longer.
  • Increasing the use of low-impact materials and dyeing processes.
  • Exploring alternative business models to enable growth without always having to produce more products.

Transitioning to Renewable Energy

Even with better material choices and more efficient factories, energy will always be needed to produce and distribute Haglöfs products. That’s why phasing out coal and transitioning to renewable energy is essential for achieving large-scale emissions reductions. Our goal is to use only renewable electricity in our own operations and to support our suppliers in doing the same.

We are actively working to transition our factories to renewable energy, but this is a complex process that requires industry-wide collaboration. Most of our factories are located in Asia, where challenges such as reliance on coal, limited power grids, and high costs for renewable energy make the transition more difficult. Success will require long-term investments and partnerships between companies, governments, and energy providers to improve access to and adoption of renewable energy in the region.

We track and share our progress through our annual sustainability report.
