How do we get to the camp?

Accepted Answer

Travel from Stockholm is easy, either by train or by flight to Kiruna. We will meet you upon arrival at Kiruna Airport or pick you up at Kiruna Train Station. Once you have confirmed your place, we'll send you more information regarding the different alternatives. But train will depart on March 23 in the evening and arrive again in Stockholm March 27 in the evening.

From Kiruna, we continue by bus for approximately one hour to Nikkaluokta. From here, the journey changes character. Snowmobiles and Snow cats take us around 20 km across the winter landscape to our camp, either by sled or by towing behind a snowmobile. This final stretch marks the true transition from infrastructure to mountain terrain.

What about personal hygiene? Is there a bathroom or shower?

There are no showers or running water in camp. Personal hygiene is managed using snow and, when needed, in the sauna. Life here is intentionally simple, everything is designed to work in cold conditions, with minimal impact on the environment.

What can a day look like?

Our days are shaped by the mountains and the conditions at hand. Weather, snow and terrain determine the plan — flexibility is essential, and adapting to nature is part of the experience.

When conditions allow, we head out on ski touring missions in the surrounding alpine terrain. Groups are kept small, with a maximum of six participants per guide, ensuring a high level of safety, learning and presence in the mountains.

For those who are less comfortable on skis, or when conditions require a different approach, alternative routes are available. These may include easier tours in the valley using snowshoes, allowing everyone to explore the landscape.

What do I need to bring? Is there a packing list?

Participants are fully responsible for bringing their own personal equipment and clothing. Proper winter clothing is essential, this is not optional. We live outdoors around the clock, with no possibility to step indoors for warmth. Weather conditions can change rapidly, and in extreme cases temperatures may drop to -30°C. Being properly dressed is critical for both comfort and safety.

Warm footwear with thick, insulating soles is mandatory. Cold ground is one of the biggest challenges in winter conditions, and insufficient insulation from below can quickly lead to discomfort or cold-related injuries.

Bring several types of gloves, including insulated mittens, which are strongly recommended. Neck gaiters (buffs), heavy insulated down jackets and properly layered clothing are required. You must also bring extra base layers to change into if you become sweaty or wet during activity.

Additional spare clothing is essential in case of unforeseen circumstances. Redundancy is part of operating safely in a remote winter environment.

All participants must also bring a backpack and a complete avalanche safety kit, including transceiver, shovel and probe. This camp relies on preparation, responsibility and respect for the conditions.

An updated and detailed packing list will be sent to you once you have confirmed and accepted your place in the camp.

How far can the temperatures drop?

It’s very hard to predict, but they can drop to -30°C and being properly dressed is critical for both comfort and safety. The sauna is the only place where you can dry your clothes and boots if they get wet and sweaty. So please respect the packing list and bring multiple layers to change from.

Question 6

Do I need to be an experienced skier to join the camp?

This is a difficult question to answer precisely, conditions in the Kebnekaise area vary greatly.

There are no ski lifts and no groomed slopes. All skiing takes place in off-piste terrain. To access the runs, we use climbing skins and walk on skis or splitboards through alpine terrain.

Participants must be comfortable skiing variable snow conditions and feel confident moving in mountainous environments. As a general reference, you should be able to ski black groomed runs in a controlled and confident manner.

In addition to skiing ability, proper safety equipment is mandatory. All participants must bring a backpack and a complete avalanche safety kit, including transceiver, shovel and probe.

Are there any other activities planned?

Yes! Apart from ski touring or exploring the nature around us, there’s the magical nights. Evenings in camp are about bringing people together, creating space for connection, reflection and shared experience.

We gather in our large communal tent, where we share dinners, listen to music and unwind after long days in the mountains. For those who want, the sauna is open, a rare and welcome luxury in this environment, with room for around 15 people at a time.

The camp consists of approximately 40 participants, and over the course of the days, everyone gets to know each other. This is a place where interaction is essential, where we meet one another — and ourselves — on equal terms, under the same conditions.

What often stands out for past participants is the sense of joy and family that develops in camp. The conversations, the laughter and the shared moments become just as memorable as the skiing itself, sometimes even more so.
