The most effective way to reduce the overall environmental footprint of a product is to keep it in use for as long as possible. Taking care of your gear and fixing what needs to be mended is a good start. Throw a patch on the tear in your pants, reproof your jacket, air your down sleeping bag, or wax your leather boots. Don’t know how? Just ask.
Some clothes last a lifetime. They work for any occasion and are timeless in style. And they are mended again and again because they are irreplaceable. That’s how we think all outdoor products should be.
In an age where a take, make and waste model continues to define our relationship with things, we want to make products that stand apart. The jackets and boots that you never want to get rid of. That you fall in love with – not just for their style but for their utmost comfort, functionality and sustainable design.
Take care of your products
That’s why we want to make sure that your Haglöfs products are easy to take care of. Our products will hopefully keep you warm and dry more often than they will need to be mended and patched. But as some parts such as zippers wear out more easily than others, we’re working hard to improve the design by reinforcing where needed but also by making it easier for you to replace and fix. And when things do break, because nothing manmade is immortal, we’re happy to help you with new parts, advice and some handy tips.
We’re doing our part – and there are things that you can do as well to increase the lifecycle of your outdoor clothes and gadgets and reduce their environmental impact at the same time. The funny thing is that what is best for the environment is often what is also best for your product. For example, do you really need to wash your clothes after one use (or even three)? With the significant amount of water used to wash clothes, not to mention every wash’s impact on fabric, why not just hang them outside for some fresh air? Or just focus on removing specific stains instead of washing the entire garment? Remember, it is often during the laundry process that small fibers come loose from the fabric. Most often than not, they end up in lakes and streams.
Old favorites, new uses:
Second Chance – Haglöfs Repairwear
Sometimes, during the manufacturing process, things go wrong. A button gets misplaced or a color isn’t just right in the end. But that doesn’t mean they are ready for landfill. Instead we mend them and sell them at a lower price under our Second Chance initiative, which you will find in Haglöfs Brand Store in Stockholm.
A sustainable outdoor industry. It´s possible!
