It all started in Torsång. A small humble cabin that produced backpacks for the workers of the region. This season we went back home to retrace our roots, reconnect with our past, and find the inspiration that started it all.
The mission was simple, hike around Torsång and explore the place where it all began. Discover the land that inspired Wiktor Haglöf to create the first ever backpack.
The journey began just like any other, taking a taste of the local cuisine. We found Torsångs Cafe; the oldest of its kind in the region. There we ate the famous ‘häsrakän’ and were ready for the trek ahead. We hiked around the beautiful surroundings of Torsång. Went trekking in the trolliknande green forest towards "nästgårds" (aka, Milsbo). Walked up the 84 steps in Röråsens lookout tower where kids had signed the old walls with memories and wisdom. And, most importantly, we learned that Haglöfs has a song called "Ryggsäcken," (backpack) created by Wiktors dad.
We also reconnected with Wiktor’s son Hans. He not only showed us the first ever manufacturing facility for Haglöfs but also invited us over for a Swedish fika (Swedish coffee break) in Wiktors old house. To our surprise, many of the paintings on the walls were painted by Wiktor himself.
We did not know what to expect. All we know now is that we left Torsång with something we did not have before, a stronger understanding of our history. Sometimes you need to get lost to find what you are looking for. Sometimes adventure doesn’t need to be so complicated. We can’t wait to go back and get lost in our history again.
