Edurne Pasaban is not only the first woman to climb all fourteen peaks over 8,000 metres around the world; she's also one of the most inspiring people we know. She consistently challenges and overcomes the stereotypes of what it is to be an adventurer.
Birthdate: 1st of August, 1973
Profession: Mountaineer, lecturer, businesswoman. Nowadays I combine my sporting career with my close ties to the business world, an area where I’m is involved as a speaker for companies and for sport, cultural and educational organizations.
Place I call home: Basque Country, where my whole family lives. I’ve traveled for a long period of time, and spent a lot of time away from home. It has always been important for me to have a home, a Base Camp to return to, and that´s my family home in Tolosa.
Favorite place on earth: There are a many, but for me the Himalayas are one of them, especially the Nepali Himalayas. Everything I´ve gone through there and the memories I have makes the Himalayas my favorite place.
Dream adventure: I think that I´m a lucky person because I´ve been able to go through with almost all of the adventures that I’ve planned. But one of my dream adventure is to cross the Himalayas by foot.
What’s best about what I do: To live in contact with nature and the freedom to do what I like, to climb and enjoy the mountains.
What drives me: My son. I like to think about adventures that I one day can do with him, and giving him all of the values that the mountains has given me.
What makes me proud: Being a reference for other women. The completion of 14 eight thousand peaks and becoming the first woman in the world to have done that. This makes me feel proud, but much more for becoming a reference for other women.
Hidden talent: I´m a very persevering person. I never throw in the towel, when I set myself a challenge I work hard until I get it.
Career highlights: I don´t believe in being outstanding. One important value for me is to have a desire to excel. That means that I always believe that it can improve, but I think that the outstanding is never achieved.
Life motto: Everything we set out to achieve will only be in our power to achieve.
