PRODUCTION AND ETHICS
All of our products are designed, developed, tested and inspected at our facilities in Sweden. Haglöfs does not own factories but instead carries out production at companies specialized in manufacturing certain products or product segments such as sleeping bags, Gore-Tex ® jackets or advanced hiking footwear. Fabrics and other component materials necessary for production are also made by similarly specialized suppliers.
We consider it to be extremely important that we take responsibility for such production, both in Europe and the rest of the world. We make very certain that nobody whose work contributes to our success loses his or her human rights or suffers bodily or economic harm. Our producers must treat their employees with respect and dignity.
In order to make our position clear to our manufacturers we apply a Code of Conduct that places far-reaching demands on them, and acceptance of these demands is a pre-condition for becoming a Haglöfs’ manufacturer. Briefly, the code covers such issues as child labour, terms of employment, health & safety, the working environment and the prevention of cruelty to animals.
Our aim is to establish long-term business relations with all of our suppliers, among other reasons in order to gain better control over how our products are manufactured. As a result, 60% of our current suppliers have been with Haglöfs for more than 5 years.
Haglöfs' purchasers and product developers visit our manufacturers on an ongoing basis and are able to check that our standards are conformed to. Every year we also allow independent inspection companies to look over around 20-25% of our manufacturers to ensure that they follow our Code of Conduct. This means that every four years our manufacturers undergo a third-party inspection to determine whether or not they are abiding by Haglöfs demands as specified in our Code of Conduct.
