THE KAITUM RIVER

THE KAITUM RIVER

Lapland at its wildest

Always on the lookout for great adventures, my eye was caught by the description of the Kaitum Elva in Swedish Lapland. “A river with an enormous wilderness character”.

The river looks so different from above and for just a few of these pictures I don´t mind walking a half day.

The sky has change colours from sheer blue to soft pink and the first stars appear. Some mugs of coffee later, even the northen lighs are mirrored on the water.

The common world of telephones, computers and deadlines can't beat the silence of Swedish Lapland. Here, less is more.

Wilderness and silence in large. It sharpens my senses and clears my focus. Time is getting a different meaning and I'm glad that our goal is still far away.

JOLANDA LINSCHOOTEN

ALLROUND ADVENTURER, PHOTOGRAPHER AND JOURNALIST

Jolanda is an allround adventurer, photographer and journalist, always looking for new outdoor challenges.

Her trips to Alaska, Canada, Greenland, Iceland, Scandinavia and the Alps among others, have resulted in outdoor articles, hiking and paddling guides, which she hopes inspire outdoor people to visit new places.

Jolanda's love for wild places made her cross the Greenland icecap together with husband Frank van Zwol. She has also solo-skied through northwest Canada in the company of a husky, to explore the wilderness of the Richardson Mountains and arrive in the native settlement of Old Crow, where the Vuntut Gwichin First Nation live out their vision of wilderness.

In 2011, Jolanda was the winner of the TDS race, which is a part of the UTMB. TDS, or "Sur les Traces des Ducs de Savoie", is a wild and technical ultra marathon in the Alps.

For 2013, Jolanda is doing Running Wild - powered by Haglöfs, a solo running adventure, crossing Great Britain all the way from Land's End in the south to John O'Groats in the north. Without a support crew, 2000 km cross country on foot and bivouacing overnight. The project combines Jolanda's ultrarunning passion & professional adventure business with her love for wild and lonely places. The target is not to cover the distance as fast as possible, but it is about experiencing wild places as intense and active as possible by running beautiful long distance paths (West Coast Trail, Offa's Dyke, Cumbria Way, Hadrian's Wall, The Pennine Way, West Highland Way) and once in the wild Scottish Highlands, by following no paths at all across the mountains.

Running Wild is scheduled for April 15th - Mai 30th 2013.

Meine Ausrüstungs-Favoriten

GRAM Q JACKET

Gram Q Jacket & Gram Q Pants are my favourites while running long hours in severe country or circumstances. Because both jacket and pants keep me warm in strong wind, cold and rain; but even better, they are breathable enough to not completely soaken underneath while being active; and they are lightweight, nice flexable and have an extremely good cut. This is why I take them both with me during Running Wild - my 6-week crossing of Britain along wild countryside.
